On Friday, October 18 we held our second monthly seminar. The topic was on our fourth pillar, mindset, and was aimed at “getting out of your own way”.
The initial focus was on choosing your three core values before setting your goals.
Why Core Values are Essential
Can you name your three core values off the top of your head? That is, can you say in just three words, what is at the core of every single decision you make? This is a difficult decision if it is not something you have considered at length, so we spent some time deciding on three values.
For example, at Cultivar, our core values are:
-
Empathy
-
Humility
-
Leadership
No decision or interaction is made without these three core values in the forefront of our mind.
Using values to set goals
The next step was to write a three-month goal; it could be gym related or non-gym related. From there, the team wrote three actionable steps that they could take towards that goal. The goal, and the steps, should be inline with the core values.
How does this help to get out of your own way?
By naming your core values, you can have a much better understanding and greater control over your thoughts. Your thoughts will drive your three actionable steps and eventually your outcome (three-month goal).
By having three simple and definable core values, your decision-making ability becomes more clear and concise. When you do not have your three core values, it is much easier to float towards the three-month mark as opposed to driving towards it. By floating, you and your thoughts are simply getting in your own way.
What is my first step to achieving three, six and twelve-month goals?
The first step to the Cultivar Health mindset program is to pick three core values. Before you set any goals, understand where your motivation is coming from and fuel that fire even further by naming your values.
